Important forms
At the start of each year we re-issue our Young Person Information form electronically in the Tangles Events system. This records consents, permissions etc as well as any important medical or dietary needs. This form can be updated by parents at any time.
For most events this is sufficient but please make a note to update any important changes before any event. Some events require us to issue additional consent of information forms either hosted by ourselves or by a third party activity provider.
How do I join?
The unit will take two intakes each year at the start of September and at the start of January depending on the youg person’s age and will be managed according to the unit intake policy.
Uniform
The uniform consists of the standard land explorer scout shirt and our black and red necker with dark activity trousers. We issue the unit and district name badges etc. Uniform is required at all sessions unless alternatice activity wear is required at certain activities.

Payment
How do OSM payments work?
We operate two direct debits via the Online Scout Manager system.
- Annual subs are collected through a Subscriptions direct debit and payments are made in advance as two half year payments. This direct debit is eligible for gift aid and we encourage parents please to tick the gift aid box as this makesĀ a bigger contribution to the unit.
- Paid activities are collected through a second ‘Camps and activities’ direct debit which is signed once when signing up to the first activity. When an explorer scout is signed up to a paid activity, the payment is collected automatically once the sign up date has passed.
Can I cancel an external activity once I have signed up?
We always set a date by which we need final numbers for external events. You can sign up and typically withdraw your scout at any time before this date. After that, while we can remove an explorer from an activity we will not be able to refund any deposit or other payments already made. The reason for this is that after this date we start to make payments to external venues etc which are non-refundable.
While we try to make the sign up date as close to the event as possible, some of the venues that we use have to be booked a year in advance.

The easiest way is to email explorers@efs-scouts.org.uk. During external events we provide telephone contact numbers for use in emergency.
Can I volunteer?
Yes you can ! There are many ways in which you can help, depending on the time you have available, from being a leader, an occasional helper and in supporting the group through helping to look after our equipment, accounts, admin, even this web site. Just drop us an email.
